Cut-Over to Dials Sunday for Modern 'Phone Service

"Bradford 'Phone Users Can Play Important Part in Changeover

Bradford telephone users can play an important part this weekend in ensuring that the change to dial service is completed smoothly.
C.E. Blosdale, Bell Telephone manager for this community, asked subscribers not to place "curiosity calls" or other unnecessary calls at or near cutover time.
The changeover will be made shortly after 3 a.m., Sunday - a time when the volume of calls being handled by the local exchange usually is light.
A few minutes before that time, operators in the manual exchange will start asking persons placing calls to hang out and try again a few minutes later, using the dial. The change is expected to take less than two minutes to complete."

Luthernas Begin Worship in Barrie

"The same Lutheran Synod which is sponsoring Trinity Lutheran Church of Bradford is beginning a new mission in Barrie this coming Sunday.
The initial service is scheduled for this Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. The place for this service in Codrington School auditorium. The preacher will be Mr. Milan Babel, who will serve the Barrie area as student pastor. The officiant will be Pastor Andrew Brondos of Bradford.
The Bradford Lutherans will journey to Barrie to join in this worship service. They will form an auto cavalcade at their church and drive to Barrie together.
The decision to begin a Lutheran congregation in Barrie came as a result f a Lutheran rally held there in February of this year. At that service about twenty Lutheran families were represented. Since then contacts have been made with several more families."

Pong Boys Saved from Drowning by Prompt Action of Girl and Youths Off Stoney Point

"Jackie and Billie Pong, 10 and 7-year-old sons of Jack Pong, Bradford restaurant manager, had a narrow brush with death by drowning off Stoney Point, Lake Simcoe, last Friday, when they drifted into water some eight feet in depth while floating on inflated tire tubes, then fell into the lake. Neither boy can swim and the alarm for them was raised by their elder brother, Gene, who stood, neck deep in the water, and helpless to aid the smaller brothers, called for help." ...
