Orillia Mayor John Palmer is dead of a heart attack. Palmer, sixty-five, was at home recuperating from surgery when he began experiencing chest pains on Wednesday and returned to hospital. He died on Friday morning. Palmer was a teacher before running for political office in 1988. He began teaching at Orillia District Collegiate & Vocational Institute in 1966, and retired as head of the history department in 1983. He leaves a wife, Phyllis, three children and three grandchildren.
