"Mike Kilkenny called his baseball career to a halt in 1973 after a squabble with the management of the Cleveland Indians, but he may be on his way to the major leagues again. Mike, who was raised in Bradford, told The Witness that a successful year with the Senior Intel County Baseball League's London Majors has drawn scouts from the big leagues south of the border to take a look. Mike went on to say that his season's statistics have aroused interest. So far this year he has won and finished each of the nine games he started and has 130 strike outs in 85 innings."

President of the Bradford Lions, Jim Dodds, bears a racquet with past president, Waldie Crossland and Mayor Joe Magani, who is also a member of the Lions. "Miss Barbara Stewart, former Bradford public school teacher, has been awarded the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal. Miss Stewart, who retired last year after 36 years of teaching, said from her Markham home Friday, "I don't know how I got it or who recommended me. It came by registered mail last month and it was a complete surprise." She joins Bradford lawyer Charles Evans as a recipient of the medal, awarded to persons who have made outstanding contributions to the community. She said she had just returned from a trip to Germany, and would soon go back to Bradford public school for a day to tell the students about her trip. As for retirement, "I'm just loving every bit of it.""
