Description : One of West Gwillimbury Township's best known and most highly respected residents, Bismark Roberts, passed away at Newmarket Hospital on Thursday, May 22. A son of the late Francis and Jane Roberts, Bismark Roberts was born March 15, 1873, on the farm on which he resided for all but four years of his life, and which his son Gerald now occupies. Concession 11, with a view over Lake Simcoe, Mr. Roberts loved his farm and the work associated with it, and he was noted for the fine quality of produce and stock raised. He not only did his work well but took enjoyment and pride in doing it. When advanced years forced his retirement from the farm and it was taken over by his son, Gerald, Mr. and Mrs. Roberts did not leave the familiar surroundings, but took up residence on Highway 11 at Coulson's Hill, near to their church, St. John's Presbyterian, and among their old neighbours.In 1908 he married Maude Wood, who survives him, with one son, Gearld, and one daughter, Mrs. J.W. Booth (Ruth) of Stockton, California. There are four grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Cecil, of Ridgeway, and two sisters, Mrs. C. McAfee of Toronto, and Miss Ida Roberts of Port Colborne.The funeral was held on Saturday, May 24, from St. John's Church, Coulson's, where he had been an active worker and member during his life. The services were conducted by his minister, Mr. E.C. McLarnon, and interment was in the cemetery adjoining the church.The pallbearers were Jack Roberts, Alton Roberts, Dr. C. Carr, Clarence Moriarity, Edwin Fennell and Kenneth Giffen.

Concession of West Gwillimbury, the late Mr. Hayes farmed there until 1907, when he moved to Aurora. Surviving are his widow, Susan Robinson Hayes, two daughters, Thelma and Isabel; one son, Gordon Hayes; five grandchildren, and two sisters, Misses Margaret and Isabel of Bradford.His funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 14, at 2 p.m. in the Thompson Funeral Home, Aurora. Interment took place in Aurora Cemetery. The pallbearers were nephews of Mr. and Mrs. Hayes: Elbert Hayes, Wm. McClinton, John Robinson, Guy McClean, G. Banting and Herbert Houston.

Description : Died at York County Hospital, Newmarket. She had been in failing health during the past year and confined to hospital for three weeks.A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Kneeshaw, Ida Kneeshaw Evans was born at Gilford and with the exception of the past five years, spent her life in West Gwillimbury where she was most highly esteemed.In 1908 she married the late Edgar J. Evans at Bradford and together Mr. and Mrs. Evans were prominent in township affairs where, for many years, her husband was reeve of the municipality. She was a member of the United Church and a woman devoted to her home and her family.Five years ago Mr. and Mrs. Evans retired from farming and made their home at 57 Andrew St., Newmarket. On December 14, 1950, Mr. Evans passed away, and a few months later Mrs. Evans suffered an illness, the effects of which appeared to leave her in a weakened condition.Surviving are one son, Elven, of Cartier; two daughters, Miss Marion of Toronto and Mrs. Earl Bowles (Madeline) of Bradford; three sisters, Mrs. Stanley Stewart and Mrs. Walter King of Bradford, and Miss Lulu Kneeshaw of Oshawa; three brothers, Roy, Elmer and Wilbert Kneeshaw of Bradford, and one grandson, Gary Bowles, 3. Two sisters predeceased her, Miss Mabel Kneeshaw and Mrs. Herb Bowles.The funeral was held from the funeral home of Roadhouse & Rose, Newmarket. Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bradford. The services were conducted by Rev. M. J. Aiken of Newmarket United Church.The pallbearers were Brock Evans, Ernest Kneeshaw, Matthew Kneeshaw, Faris Kneeshaw, Dr. Selby Kneeshaw and Douglas Stewart.
