Description : Had suffered a fractured hip and died in Vancouver General Hospital a week afterwards. Predesceased by his wife in 1932, his sister Mrs. Dutcher (Annie) in 1931, his brother Morton in 1936, and his sister Eleanor in 1944. Father of Elmer of Vancouver; Cyril of California, Mrs. Olson (Edith), of Bremeteron, Wash. Mrs. Gardiner (Muriel) of Victoria, Mrs. R. Pike (Velma) of Vancouver, and Mrs. J.A. Dutcher (Rene), of Bradford. Last surviving member of the Johnston family. Born on
Concession 8, West Gwillimbury. Oldest child of William Johnston, a carpenter, and Caroline Scanlon Johnston. Married Mary Woods in 1882, daughter of John Woods, who died when she was very young, and Eliza Belfry Woods. Lived in a small house on what is now the Clubine farm, first owned by Mark Scanlon Sr., his son William Johnston Sr., and the latter's son-in-law J.A. Dutcher. Moved to Watford about 1885 before going to Manitoba, and, in 1918, Vancouver. Interment in Oceanview Burial Park, Vancouver.
