Description : Rev. Egerton Ryerson Young. Age: 70th year. Noted Canadian Missionary and Author. Born in Smith's Falls in 1840, a son of Rev. William Young, a pioneer Methodist preacher. Taught school until 1863, when he joined the ministry. Married Elizabeth Bingham, of Bradford, in 1867. Was called to the North West, and became a negotiator between the aboriginals and government officials. Returned to Ontario because of his health, and became an author and lecturer in England. He wrote about life among natives. Survived by his wife and five children: Rev. E.R. Young, P.A., Chatsworth; Mrs. R.N. Helme, Lancaster, England; Mrs. (Rev.) A.B. Fitzgerald, Hilton, N.J.; Mrs. Newton Brown, Toronto; and Mrs. H.E. Watson, Toronto. Lived at "Algonquin Lodge" Bradford. Interred in Bowmanville.

Full obituary for Mrs. Fred (Catherine Eunice Scanlon) Wood:
"With the passing away at Newmarket Hospital on Friday, February 10, of Catherine Eunice Moore Scanlon, beloved wife of Fred Wood, West Gwillimbury lost one of its most well-known citizens. Mrs. Wood was born and lived all her life on the farm owned by her father, the late Thos. Scanlon, Lot 2, Concession 10, whose father, Mark Scanlon, settled at Scanlon's Creek about the year 1824. Her mother was the late Maria Sloane, whose parents settled on the farm of James Sloane about the same time. The late Mrs. Wood attended school at Mount Pleasant and later attended the High School situated at the northern entrance to the Pine Grove, Bradford. She was an Anglican and during her whole life attended St. Paul's Anglican Church, the church attended by her parents. Having lived her whole life on the same farm, and having a keen mind with vivid recollections of the early settlers, she knew intimately the history of West Gwillimbury and Bradford. Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband; one brother, Allan Scanlon, who wife was a former Bradford girl, Myra Baker; their six sons and one daughter, who attended the funeral. Predeceasing her were Annie (Mrs. Donald McKay); George; Birdie (Mrs. Thos. Wood), and Mark. The funeral was from the family residence to Mount Pleasant Cemetery, part of which was given to the Methodist Church by her grandfather, Mark Scanlon. The pallbearers were six nephews, Lewis Scanlon, Sudbury; Fred Scanlon, Copper Cliff; Douglas Scanlon, Callander; Bert Scanlon, North Bay; Walter Wood, Painesville, Ohio, and gerald Wood, Wyandotte, Mich."

Woman Loses Arm in Automobile Accident

"Miss Alida Hill, of 160 Macphedson Ave., Toronto, was critically injured in an auto accident Saturday afternoon when the car in which she was a passenger failed to negotiate the curve at the foot of Holland Landing hill, climbed an embankment and then rolled on the shoulder of the road. The driver of the car, Miss Dora Pepler, 19 Kendall Ave., Toronto, escaped injuries. The injured woman was removed to York County Hospital, Newmarket, where it was found necessary to amputate her right arm. She also suffered from shock. The car is badly wrecked."

Miss Nancy Thompson of Toronto, cousin of the bride, was maid of honour, and the bridesmaids were the bride's sister, Miss Lillian Creor of Newmarket, Miss Wendy Caradonna of Newmarket, and Miss Maureen Walker of Bradford. The groom's cousin, Gary Wist, R.R. 1, Kettleby, was groomsman and the ushers were his brother, Ricky Wist; his cousin, Paul Wist; Mike Davies and Paul Colangelo of Bradford. Mr. and Mrs. Wist will reside at R.R. 1, Kettleby.

Description : Little Glen Wist, 6, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wist of the Holland Marsh, was drowned in the canal beside his home at noon last Wednesday. Apparently he had fallen into the water while playing with a small toy boat, to which he had attached a string about eight feet long.Glen had been at the storage building with his two elder brothers, Gary and Paul, and his father. At noon Mr. Wist told the three boys to go home for lunch. When Mr. Wist reached home it was realized that the youngest brother was missing. A search was immediately begun, and when they went to the canal they found the toy boat floating on the water. When they pulled in the boat, little Glen's body came in sight, the string of the boat being tied to his foot. Resuscitation work was begun immediately by his father, and a neighbour. Bradford fire brigade was called and the firemen, with the help of Miss Marilyn Ritchie, R.N., who was soon joined by a doctor, worked for three and a half hours, but in vain. Little Glen was a bright, lovable little chap who would have started to school this fall, had he been spared. He is survived by his two elder brothers, Gary 11 and Paul 8, and his parents. The funeral was held from the Church of Holy Martyrs, Bradford, on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Interment was in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bradford.
