Classy Winners

"Two first place trophies were taken home by Ken Wood of Bradford from the Barrie antique car flea market held at Formosa Park recently. The cars that took the first prize award for the early class category are his 1929 Pierce Arrow and the first prize for the early general interest category with his 1930 Chevrolet. Both cars were in the 1926 to 1933 classes."

Dead in his tracks

"This car certainly stopped. And it was quite a while before it got started again. This was the scene at the corner of Highway 88 and 5 sideroad last Saturday morning. This was only one of the many cars buried in the snow. The cars had to be moved out of the way before the plows were able to make a path through the high drifts that built up on the road."

Cars hit deer

"Last week there were two incidents of cars hitting deers on Highway 400. Neither drivers was seriously injured. On Sunday, November 9, Gordon Walker of Newmarket was southbound on Highway 400 south of Innisfil Beach Road when he struck a deer in the centre lane. On Thursday, November 13, Laurence Blake of RR 2, Bradford, was northbound on Highway 400 south of Highway 88 when he struck a deer in the driving lane."

The Lucky Ticket

"Ticket number 13 was the lucky one for John Thompson (left) and his wife, June, of Sharon as they collect the keys to the 1977 Cutlass Supreme at the Bradford Blues car draw on Saturday. Mr. Thompson's was the 1,000th ticket picked in the elimination draw. Bob Hamilton of RR 3, Bradford, won the consolation prize of a color television. Winners of $100 each were William Barranger, Gery DePeuter, Elizabeth Gregory, McKinzey Hardware, Wayne Collings, and Charles Breedon, all from Bradford."

Winter returns, halts all activity

"When Southern Ontario residents put away all their snowmobiling equipment and winter clothes, they thought the long, cold winter had ended, but Old Man Winter decided he still had some say in the matter. Over a foot of snow covered southern Simcoe County and winds gusting up to 50 miles an hour created 15-foot drifts that blocked traffic, closed businesses, schools, and stranded travellers. The Ontario Provincial Police detachment had their hands full like everybody else. The detachment has waded through only a handful of accident reports and so far they report four property damage collisions involving six vehicles on Highway 400 between Highways 88 and 89. Five property damage collisions involving six vehicles south of Highway 88 were also looked into. There are still numerous accidents that have yet to be fully investigated."
