Description : South Simcoe lost one of its best known ladies in the sudden passing of Mrs. Gavin C. Allan at her home in Lefroy on Monday, March 30. Mrs. Allan had been ill but a few days.Mrs. Allan was best known in the Bradford area through her work in the Women's Institute. Throughout a long term of years she had served on the executive of South Simcoe District W. I. and later was honoured with the District presidency. At the time of her death she was a South Simcoe District past-president. Throughout almost fifty years since her home Institute branch was formed she had been a most active and capable member of the Churchill branch.A native of Allandale, Mrs. Allan, whose maiden name was Florence Campbell, was married in 1901 and moved to Churchill where she was active in the affairs of the community and the United Church.Surviving are her husband, Gavin C. Allan, Lefroy, and three daughters, Mrs. M. H. Bell (Agnes), King, Ont.; Mrs. R. J. New (Margaret), Chatham, and Mrs. G. V. Robinson (Bessie), Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.; one son , Jack, at home, and one sister living at Churchill, Mrs. E. H. Scott.Funeral service was held at Churchill United Church and was conducted by Rev. H. F. Sanders. Family service in the home was conducted by Rev. J. Morris. Interment was in the Sixth Line Cemetery.Pallbearers were Howard Allan, Blythe McConkey, Fred Peacock, M. H. Bell, G. V. Robinson and R. J. New.
