Description : A well known figure, who until the time of the accident which took him to hospital with a broken hip about three weeks ago, was about the street looking after business affairs and greeting those he knew, passed away in Newmarket Hospital on Tuesday, May 18, in the person of Mr. James Archer. For a short period Mr. Archer appeared to rally, but the fall and the operation necessary on his hip proved to be too great a strain. He was in his 77th year.Mr. Archer was a lifelong resident of Bradford district, where he farmed. In later years he was interested in the marsh gardens, his farm backing into the marsh, and in the residents of that area of the marsh. He was highly regarded for his honesty and friendliness among those who knew him.He was predeceased by his wife, the former Laura Sawyer. Surviving are three daughters and two sons, namely, Mrs. J. Jones (Kathleen) of Bradford; Bob of Toronto; Tom of Timmins; Mrs. Whitelaw (Amy) of Windsor; Mrs. Bert Marchmount (Donna) of Glen Williams; and two sisters, Mrs. M. Lowery (Minnie) of Stroud, and Mrs. T. Timmins (Polly) of Carnduff, Sask. The funeral was held from the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home, Bradford, on Friday afternoon with interment in St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Coulson's Hill. Johnson of the Anglican Churches. The pallbearers were five neighbours of the deceased and a nephew, namely, Thos. Brown, Fred Doane, Vic Turner, Wilbert Kneeshaw, Ed.
