"The blazing meteorite which cut a fiery path over Eastern Canada and the United States on Saturday night, frightening or thrilling thousands of people, was seen by many residents of Bradford and district. Though your editors did not see it, from all reports it created an eerie feeling in those who were witness to its passing. Dr. Peter Millman of the National Research Council , Ottawa, said the meteorite may have been a fragment of a planet that broke up millions of years ago and, if so, it probably had been orbiting the sun until it crashed through the earth's atmosphere."

"The town of Bradford bulged at the seams last week as an estimated 20,000 people jammed into the community to make an unprecedented success of the annual Bradford Salad Festival. From last Wednesday night, through Sunday, every event scheduled by the Salad Festival Committee surpassed organizers' highest hopes. Visitors and residents alike consumed hundreds of pounds of fresh salad, sliced their way through a ton of beef, sipped on soft drinks and other refreshments, danced til the wee hours of the morning, and generally paid tribute to the greatest growing area in Ontario."
"At 2 p.m., on Saturday, October 7, a weekend which will long be remembered, began for the residents of Newton Robinson and the Newton Robinson community, when friends of former years came to celebrate the village's Pioneer Family Days. The activities for the celebration were introduced with a parade, which assembled a Poole's garage, and was led by two pipers, Paul and Marilyn Moir of Cookstown, up the hill and into Lloyd Coburn's orchard, which was prepared in readiness for celebrating the occasion." ...
