Known as the Scotch Settlement and District Historical Society, it will seek to preserve the historical record of not only the struggles of the Scottish settlers but those of Bradford and West Gwillimbury as well. "Peter and Josefina Catania, on their way to Brazil to teach and conduct research, recently visited Peter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Catania of RR 2, Newmarket, and Peter's brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Betty Catania. Mr. and Mrs. Catania will teach for two years at the Universidade Federal de Paraiba in Jona Pessoa. Dr. Peter Catania will study solar energy at the university and Dr. Josefina Catania will teach psychology, as part of a project of the Canadian government. Peter was born and raised in Bradford and he attended St. Mary's separate school, Aurora High School, the University of Waterloo, University of Edmonton, and University of Regina. Josefina was born and raised in Cebu City, The Philippines. The couple had two children, Carleon Miguel, 5, and Alaine Mia, 1.5."

"The Annual Junior Plowing Match and Coaching Day was held last Thursday at the farm of Harold Bell, Gilford. Participating in the day were Marie Thomas, Susan Dawney, Neil Thomas, John Robinson, and Tom Robinson, all turning in a worthy performance in their respective classes. These young people were coached throughout the day by Keith Robinson and Bill Thomas, under head coach Bill Timbers, former world champion plowman. Queen of the Furrow, Susan Gilmore, coached by her father, Earl Gilmore, was also plowing in preparation for future competition. Jack Campbell and Frank Cowan, also members of the South Simcoe Plowmen's Association were on hand to assist with the most successful day."
"Kurt Soderberg and Pat Sincola, members of the Bradford Gay Sixties senior citizens club, get in a game of cards at the Simcoe County Senior Citizens Picnic, held at Springwater Provincial Park in Barrie last week. Program co-ordinator Joyce Moisey said the picnic was a great success with more than 1,200 members taking part."
"Visitors from as far away as Idaho came to the open house at the Muck Research Station in the Holland Marsh last Friday. A steady stream of farmers, growers, salesmen and students toured the nine-acre site loaded with exhibits and test crops. The research station has served the area since the late 1940's, testing various crops, fertilizers, and chemicals used on muck crops. The station is headed by senior muck crops specialist Matt Valk, with Edo Knibbe as the agricultural technician, and staff members Fred Weening, Dave Walton, Eleanor Wall and Maureen Evans. The annual open house was blessed with warm, sunny weather."
"Mary Novosad uses an old wooden wheelbarrow to carry two bushels of potatoes from her garden in Bradford. This is a time of hard work as she and her husband, Steve, grow several types of vegetables behind their Morris Road home."
"Andy Simurda, 71, rises each summer morning at dawn to help his son, John, cultivate vegetables on the family's holding in the Holland Marsh. In 1932, Mr. Simurda came to the marsh with three friends from his native country, Czechoslovakia. J. Kacmar, Joseph Kuhla, and M. Sklencar were partners with Mr. Simurda in marsh gardening. They even shared accommodation in the village of Bradford while their wives waited in Czechoslovakia until the men established themselves in Canada."
