Description : After failing in health for a number of years but bedfast only one week, Charles Godfrey Clute passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 1950, at the home of his son-in-law, Whitney Thompson, lot 8, concession 12, Tecumseth.Charles Clute as born on April 25, 1869, the son of Harriet Holt and James R. Clute, in Tiny Township. The early part of his life was spent in North Simcoe. He learned the blacksmith and horseshoeing trade with Mr. John Richardson, Fegusonvale. He purchased a blacksmith business in 1898 from the late Alfred Ayerat at Cookstown and took up residence here. Mr. Clute was married on February 6, 1901, to Jane Ney, daughter of the late John and Sarah Ney at Bond Head. He was an industrious citizen, a competent blacksmith who successfully carried on his trade for many years here. He was an Anglican and a Conservative. He was for a number of years a police trustee of the village of Cookstown. Mr. and Mrs. Clute resided at Cookstown until five years ago when, owing to ill-health they took up residence with their daughter, Hazel (Mrs. Whitney Thompson) in Tecumseth.Surviving are a daughter, Hazel (Mrs. Whitney Thompson), Alliston; three brothers, Wallace Clute of Elmvale, Willard of Barrie, and Thomas of Toronto; four sisters, Melissa (Mrs. John Rowat) of Minesing; Hattie (Mrs. John Goddard) of Brethour; Cyfilia (Mrs. Earl Banks) of Shelbourne; Stella (Mrs. Jas. Rankin) of Midland. His wife predeceased him on May 18, 1948. He was predeceased a number of years ago also by a brother, James Clute of Ingersoll, and five sisters, Sarah (Mrs. E. MacDonald), Penetang; Nellie (Mrs. A. McGrath), Toronto; Edith (Mrs. D. Luck), Minesing; also Lily and Mary.The funeral service was held on Saturday afternoon, March 18, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, and was conducted by Rev. A.W. Downer of Duntroon, assisted by Rev. Edmund Unstead of Beeton and Rev. Geo. Morrison of Wyevale. Interment was made in Alliston Union Cemetery. The pallbearers were six nephews, Robert Robertson, Norval Luck, Kenneth and Russell Banks, Walter and Louis Cook. Cookstown Advocate.

Description : Residents of this community were shocked and saddened to learn of the very sudden passing of Abraham J. Brown on Tuesday morning, December 4, in Newmarket Hospital. Although under the doctor's care for some months and unable to carry on his work on the farm, Mr. Brown was around as usual, meeting his friends, until a seizure on the previous Sunday noon necessitated his removal to hospital. Even after entering the hospital he rallied and hopes were held for his recovery.Abe" as he was known to his friends was born in the township and lived all of his life on the home farm occupied in more recent years by him and his son Thomas. He was the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Brown of West Gwillimbury. He was predeceased by his wife Laura Adair 21 years ago.The late Mr. Brown was an enthusiastic hockey and lacrosse fan and enjoyed his friends.Left to mourn his sudden loss are his only son Thomas; two brothers Robert C. of Guelph and Thomas of Bradford; one sisters Mrs. James Sloane (Beatrice) of Bradford; and nephews and nieces Audrey and Victor Sloane Mrs. M. Vipond (Helen Brown) and Robert Brown. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Sloane to Mount Pleasant Cemetery with his rector Rev. H.G. Blake conducting the services. Rev. W.J. Creighton an old friend of the family was also present. A favourite hymn of the deceased "Abide With Me" was sung by Mrs. John Fennell accompanied by Mrs. J. Gordon.L.O.L. 885 Coulson's Hill of which Mr. Brown had been a member for 35 years had charge of the service.Pallbearers were four members of the L.O.L. Seward Lee Wm. Jelly and Elwood Bateman and two life-long friends Percy Selby and Emory Belfry."

Description : Far from his native land and family, who for the past ten years has gardened on the Bradford marsh, Simcoe
Street, passed away in hospital at Paris, Ont. Mr. Szarko, although not in good health during the past year, continued at work until September 30, when he went to Toronto, and a few days later to Brantford to consult a specialist. He was sent to the hospital in Paris where he underwent an operation on October 9.Mr. Szarko came to Canada from Ukrania in 1926, leaving a wife and family in that land. Ten years ago he began marsh gardening and as he prospered he had hoped to bring his family to this country but fate did not so decree. War years and later inability to contact them, their territory being under Russian domination, broke family ties.While he did not have family friends at the last, he had many friends among his neighbours here and in Toronto.The funeral was held in Toronto. Rev. Benesh of the Greek Catholic Church, Bathurst St., conducted the services and interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Toronto.The funeral was largely attended by his friends from Bradford and Toronto and the high esteem of these friends was expressed in the beautiful floral tributes given by them.
