Description : After failing in health for a number of years but bedfast only one week, Charles Godfrey Clute passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 1950, at the home of his son-in-law, Whitney Thompson, lot 8, concession 12, Tecumseth.Charles Clute as born on April 25, 1869, the son of Harriet Holt and James R. Clute, in Tiny Township. The early part of his life was spent in North Simcoe. He learned the blacksmith and horseshoeing trade with Mr. John Richardson, Fegusonvale. He purchased a blacksmith business in 1898 from the late Alfred Ayerat at Cookstown and took up residence here. Mr. Clute was married on February 6, 1901, to Jane Ney, daughter of the late John and Sarah Ney at Bond Head. He was an industrious citizen, a competent blacksmith who successfully carried on his trade for many years here. He was an Anglican and a Conservative. He was for a number of years a police trustee of the village of Cookstown. Mr. and Mrs. Clute resided at Cookstown until five years ago when, owing to ill-health they took up residence with their daughter, Hazel (Mrs. Whitney Thompson) in Tecumseth.Surviving are a daughter, Hazel (Mrs. Whitney Thompson), Alliston; three brothers, Wallace Clute of Elmvale, Willard of Barrie, and Thomas of Toronto; four sisters, Melissa (Mrs. John Rowat) of Minesing; Hattie (Mrs. John Goddard) of Brethour; Cyfilia (Mrs. Earl Banks) of Shelbourne; Stella (Mrs. Jas. Rankin) of Midland. His wife predeceased him on May 18, 1948. He was predeceased a number of years ago also by a brother, James Clute of Ingersoll, and five sisters, Sarah (Mrs. E. MacDonald), Penetang; Nellie (Mrs. A. McGrath), Toronto; Edith (Mrs. D. Luck), Minesing; also Lily and Mary.The funeral service was held on Saturday afternoon, March 18, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, and was conducted by Rev. A.W. Downer of Duntroon, assisted by Rev. Edmund Unstead of Beeton and Rev. Geo. Morrison of Wyevale. Interment was made in Alliston Union Cemetery. The pallbearers were six nephews, Robert Robertson, Norval Luck, Kenneth and Russell Banks, Walter and Louis Cook. Cookstown Advocate.
