Description : The passing of Edwin Kneeshaw at his home, Gilford, on Saturday, February 9, resulted from a stroke suffered but a few days before his death. Mr. Kneeshaw was very seriously ill during December when he was a patient in a Toronto hospital but he has made a wonderful recovery and was able to be about his home when he and Mrs. Kneeshaw celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on January 8. He had apparently continued to recuperate and his sudden seizure was most unexpected. The third generation of the Kneeshaw family in the Gilford district of West Gwillimbury, Mr. Kneeshaw was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Kneeshaw and he had spent his life on the farm on which he died. Throughout that period of over seventy years he held a position of highest respect among his neighbours. On January 8, 1902, he married a young lady who lived across the road, Clara Maud Steele, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Steele, whose farm was the present Gardener farm at Steele's Corners. She too was a descendant of a pioneer family, she being the fourth generation of Steele in West Gwillimbury. Throughout the years Mr. and Mrs. Kneeshaw have been valued residents of the township, their lives an example of all that is best. Mr. Kneeshaw served for a few years on the township council and in the church at Ebenezer, formerly Methodist, now United, he was a loyal supporter and a faithful worker. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Ernest and Douglas; four grandchildren, Betty and Robert, Gwen and Bruce; and one brother, William Kneeshaw, all of West Gwillimbury. A sister, Mrs. Booth (Lavina Kneeshaw) of Toronto, predeceased him in December and another brother, Wesley, a number of years ago. The other members of a large family died young. The funeral was held from his home to Ebenezer Church for service on Monday afternoon. Rev. E.E. Newcombe conducted the service and interment was in Ebenezer cemetery. The pallbearers were four nephews, Matthew Kneeshaw, Wilfred Kneeshaw, Jack Kneeshaw (Toronto) and Ross Neilly, and two neighbours, Ross Bell and Russell Gardener.
