Description : Funeral service for Arthur Garrett, 94, a Star compositor for 38 years, and the oldest member of The Toronto Star Quarter Century club, was held on Saturday at the Turner and Porter Funeral Chapel, Roncessvalles Ave., Toronto. Interment was in Prospect Cemetery. Mr. Garrett died Thursday at his Quebec Ave. home.Born in Bradford, Mr. Garrett worked for many years with the Orilla Packet before coming to Toronto. He joined the staff of The Star 55 years ago and retired in 1939.A member of the Erskine United Church, he was alsoa member of the Toronto Typographical union.In his youth, Mr. Garrett was active in sports, particularly lacrosse and curling. In 1885 he played on the tankard championship team in Orillia.He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Beasley, and Blanche of Toronto, and three sons, Robert and Bertram of Toronto, and Frank of California. His wife predeceased him.

Description : Miss Catherine Ann McCarroll passed away at her West Gwillimbury Township home on June 26, in her 82nd year.Miss McCarroll was born in Tecumseth Township, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John McCarroll, but had spent practically all of her life in West Gwillimbury, on R.R. 4, Cookstown.She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Walter Costar of Novar, and one brother Henry Lee McCarroll of Stroud, and several nephews and nieces.The funeral was held fom the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home in Bradford on June 30 with Rev. W. S. Johnson conducting the service. Interment was in St. Paul's Cemetery, Coulson's Hill.The pallbearers were Robt. Webber, John Parks, Clarence Roth, Dalton Meher, John Robinson and John Beeston.

Description : After a long illness Mrs. Ida M. Sawyer, widow of the late Gilson Sawyer, passed away June 16, 1956, in Mrs. MacMillian's Nursing Home, Barrie. Mrs. Sawyer was born at Gilford, Ontario, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rothwell. She leaves two sons, Eben and Girvan, and twelve grandchildren; also two brothers, Elmer and Douglas, and three sisters, Mrs. Robt. Boyes (Annie), Elizabeth and Reba.Mrs. Sawyer was a faithful member of the Gilford United Church and a life member of the W.M.S.The funeral was conducted in the Gilford United Church by the pastor, Rev. H. F. Sanders, assisted by Rev. T. L. White of Faith Baptist Church, Toronto. Mr. Kenneth McLellan of the Shanty Bay Men's Christian Association closed with prayer. Interment was in St. Paul's Cemetery, Coulson's Hill.
