Event Date : Friday, July 19, 1957 Event Type : Death Municipality : Community : Bradford Street : Lot : Concession : 0 Description : The very sudden passing of Mrs. Saxon last Friday evening, July 19, came as a shock to her many friends here. Mrs. Saxon was on the street on Friday afternoon, but apparently did not feel well because she called at her doctor's office. The doctor advised her that she should go home and go to bed for a rest. Later that evening she became decidedly worse and the doctor was summoned and gave her emergency attention but she passed away within a few minutes.Mrs. Saxon was born in Elmvale and spent her youth there. During World War I she married Thomas Raymond Saxon, the marriage taking place at Allandale, and when Mr. Saxon returned from overseas, Mr. and Mrs. Saxon took up residence in Bradford where Mr. Saxon was a foreman with the C.N.R. This has been Mrs. Saxon's home since 1919.Not only has Bradford been Mrs. Saxon's home, but Mrs. Saxon had made her home a home for everyone needing a home. Motherless girls always found a mother and a home with Mrs. Saxon, and she leaves to mourn her passing the young people whose lives she brightened by her kindness and her affection. The good she dispensed during her life cannot be estimated. Her last year had been a sad one. Her husband died on July 24 of last year and she had also lost two brothers within the year. A niece, Miss Gladys Harvey of Stoney Creek survives.Mrs. Saxon was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, Aurora, and the members of this lodge held as impressive service on Saturday evening. She was a member of Bradford United Church and the W.A. of that church. She was also a member of Bradford Knitting Club. The funeral was held from Bradford United Church on Monday afternoon. Rev. F. G. MacTavish conducted the services and interment was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
