Description : Mr. Edward Arthur Callander died at his home in Bradford on March 7, following a short illness. He was in his 87th year.Born at Thornbury, Mr. Callander had been a resident here for the past fifty-two years, coming here in the capacity of a stationary engineer.In 1941 he married Priscilla Rowley of Elmvale, who survives him. Also surviving are a nephew, Russel Ludlow of Alliston and a niece, Mrs. Edgar Jenkins of Everett.He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.The funeral was held from the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home on March 9, with temporary entombment at Mount Albert with burial to take place in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bradford, later. The services were conducted by his minister, Rev. F. G. MacTavish of Bradford United Church.The pallbearers were Messrs. Gordon and James Church, B. Horne, F. Gregory and A. Hammell.

Description : Mrs. Alvina (Allie) Moss McAfee Faris passed away at Bond Haven Nursing Home, Bond Head, on Saturday, March 16, following eight years of invalidism after suffering a stroke.Born on
Concession 10, West Gwillimbury, on February 20, 1880, the late Mrs. Faris was the second daughter of the late Thomas McAfee and his wife Sarah O'Donnell. Her mother died when she was four years old and she was raised by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robt. McAfee. On December 3, 1902, she married the late Matthew Robert Faris, and they took up residence on
Concession 8 on what is now the Harrison Farm, and four years later moved to the home farm of Mr. Faris' father, James Faris, on the 6th Line, where Mr. Faris died in 1933. Mrs. Faris remained on the farm for a number of years after his death.Mrs. Faris was very active in the work of the Women's Institute, having served as a Branch president; District secretary; District president; County vice-president and also on the Provincial Board. For several years she served as a demonstrator and lecturer for the Women's Institute throughout the province and also as a judge at Fall Fairs for the Department of Agriculture. Mrs. Faris wrote several plays for the Women's Institute, which won in contests.Mrs. Faris was a member of Bradford Presbyterian Church and took an active part in the work of this church and of its W.M.S. of which she was a life member.She is survived by two sons, Lewis Emerson of Bradford and Matthew Robert of Vancouver; grandchildren, Jimmie, Bobbie and Flora; two half-sisters, Mrs. Nina
Street and Mrs. Neata Sarvis of Toronto, and a half-brother, Merland McAfee of Toronto.The funeral was held on Monday, March 18, from the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home with Mr. Williams conducting the services. Interment was in Auld Kirk Cemetery.The pallbearers were Murray Faris, Gilbert Faris, Wilfred Faris, Clarence Metcalfe, Graeme Darling, Arthur Mythson.

Description : The very sudden death of a life-long resident of Bradford, Beverley (Bev.) Woodcock, at his home, 43 Centre St., on Friday, March 8, came as a shock to his family and friends. Mr. Woodcock, who was 65 years of age, had had 'flu and suffered a heart attack.Born here, he had spent his life working as a fisherman and on the marsh, first in marshland hay work, with the late Mr. B. B. Collings and more recently with the latter's son, N. E. Collings. Mr. Woodcock had been with the Collings for 52 years, which is a long record of faithful service.He was predeceased by his wife, the former Addie Mary Ellerbie, on February 19, 1956, and he is survived by their family of four sons, namely, Elmer, Marshall, Merle and Leeson, all of Bradford; and three daughters, Alberta (Mrs. Gillies) of Holland Landing, Jean (Mrs. Adair) of Stouffville, and Marie (Mrs. Bolton) of Tottenham. He had two brothers and three sisters who also survive, namely, Phil, Bill, Eva, Irene and Dorothy.An Anglican in religion, the funeral services from the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home on March 11, were conducted by the rector of Trinity Anglican Church, Rev. E. R. Woolley. Interment was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bradford.The pallbearers were three sons-in-law, Sam Bolton, Bob Adair and Charles Gillies; two grandsons, Wayne Woodcock and Gary Woodcock; and Tom Collings.
