Description : Bill Ruffett, Bell Ewart's oldest resident, died March 15 at the age of 93.A popular and familiar figure in the community, Ruffett was a member of the Orange Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Masonic Minerva Lodge.Services were held for him at each of these three organizations and at the Jennett Funeral Home. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. George James of Lefroy-Stroud United Church on March 18. He leaves his wife Susan (Hardy) Ruffett, five children (two predeceased), 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.Six of his grandsons were pallbearers: Steven Ruffett of Owen Sound, Jim Ruffett of Wiarton, Bob Ruffett of Ottawa, Bill Ruffett of Toronto, Dennis Squibb of Kapuskasing, and Doug Squibb of Cookstown.He was buried at the 6th Line Cemetery in Innisfil.He will be greatly missed. He had a wonderful sense of humour, and would recite poems at a moment's notice.He worked for four Bell Ewart ice companies from 1910 to 1930.After refrigerators became popular, he took up carpentry and built many of the cottages in this area.He finally retired at age 80, but kept busy building bird houses, many of which he donated to local service clubs.At the request of his family, donations were made to Ruffett's church, the Bell Ewart
Community Baptist Church.He was also an active member of the Bell Ewart Senior Citizens Club.He and his wife Susan celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary last November 29.(Lefroy Bell Ewart News)

Description : Sister Marie Reine Trombley, daughter of the late Mae Morrison and Adolphe Trombley, died on Wednesday, March 1, 1978 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was 54.Sister Marie Reine grew up in Bell Ewart with her two brothers, Adolphe and Vital and her sister, Mae (Mrs. Sullivan), all of whom predeceased her.She received her nurse's training at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, New York before entering the Sisters of St. Joseph in July, 1924.She served in the Health Care Apostolate on staff at St. Michael's Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital in Winnipeg. In 1945, she became a member of the nursing staff at St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto where she brought not only efficient care, but also comfort and peace to patients and staff members by her spirit of joy, prayer and tireless service.Because of Sister Marie Reine's long apostolate of 33 years at St. Joseph's Hospital and her residence there at the time of her death, she was waked for a day in the hospital chapel. There a requiem mass offered for her was attended by over 100 staff members and friends wishing to express appreciation for her friendship and recognition of her excellent nursing care and dedication.The funeral mass was con-celebrated at St. Joseph's Motherhouse in Willowdale, March 2, by Rev. S. Blackwell, Rev. J. O'Neill, and Rev. D. Daly. Father Blackwell was homilist. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Description : Former Bradford resident Mrs. C. Hearn died last week at Simcoe Manor in Beeton at the age of 87. She was the wife of the late C. R. P. Hearn, canon of the Anglican Church who served as rector in Bond Head and St. John's Church in Tecumseth. The pallbearers were J. Armstrong, Joe Wood, William Madill, Barney Hannah, Victor Cummings, Don Coffey.Bishop Reid of Toronto performed the service.
