Bradford doctor was honored for service

"Bradford doctor G.L. Blackwell was honored last Wednesday at the annual meeting of the York County Hospital for his years of service as chief of staff of the hospital and on the board of directors. Dr. Blackwell received a large painting as thanks for his 12 years as medical chief of staff and nine years on the board. Dr. Blackwell retired from the positions at the end of 1975. The presentation was part of the annual meeting which was held to elect directors for 1976 and to receive the annual reports for 1975."

Used car dealer wins 76 Cadillac Eldorado in Lions club car draw

"Dunnville used car dealer Robert Rowe won the 1976 Cadillac Eldorado at the annual Lions Club car draw Monday night. A capacity crowd remained past midnight to watch as the tickets on the board dwindled, drawing ever closer to the big prize. The happy owner of the new Cadillac had his ticket drawn last in the elimination contest. The draw was a huge success for the Bradford Lions, and the event is rapidly becoming one of the social highlights of the year. All proceeds from the draw will go to the Bradford Lions Pool."

"This was the scene in a greenhouse operated by Ferragine Brothers on Simcoe Road. They estimate their losses in flowers and stock at between $20-30,000. Mud and water, 10 inches deep, swept through the greenhouse."

"The most surprised winner at the Bradford District High School Commencement, Friday was Anne Saint. Only two award winners had not been announced before the ceremonies. Miss Saint won one of these awards - the Student Life Cup. It is given to the student completing Grade 12 who has made the most worthy contribution to school life. In addition to her many other activities, Anne is the Witness correspondent for the high school. A big winner at the Bradford District High School commencement last Friday was Jacqueline Kulha. She won the J.C. Wood Scholarship of $300 for the highest aggregate in six Grade 13 subjects. In addition, she took the Municipality of Bradford prize for the highest standing in Grade 13 and the science prize for the highest aggregate in tow Grade 13 sciences. Miss Kulha is seen here holding the J.C. Wood and Bradford prizes."

"Rosemary Fennell, daughter of John and Marietta Fennell, Bradford, received her diploma in nursing from Georgian College of Applied Arts and Technology, Royal Victoria Hospital Campus, Barrie. Miss Fennell has accepted a position at Blind River General Hospital.
