Description : Died at Toronto East General Hospital after suffering a stroke several days previous. In his 85th year. Husband of the late Joanna Grose, who predeceased him in 1929. Born in February 1866 on the second line of Innisfil, the youngest son of the late Mary Osler and Thos. Bateman. Predeceased by three sisters and seven brothers, Mrs. Wm. Steele, Robert, Thomas, Mrs. Sam Martin, Mrs. Andrew Bell, Lewis, William, Jonathan, George, and Mrs. Harry Moriarity. He had been very lonely since his wife's passing and, having no children of his own, took a keen interest in the lives of his nieces and nephews, some of whom he lived with. He had spent the last few years of his life with his niece Mrs. Harland (Florence Bateman) in Toronto. Rested at the Funeral Home of T. Kilkenny & Son, Bradford. Funeral held on December 8 at 2 p.m. Service in Lefroy United Church at 2:45 p.m., by Rev. Mr. Baker, a long-time friend who had also conducted Mrs. Bateman's funeral service more than 21 years before. Interment in Zion Cemetery.
