Description : The community was shocked in the early morning of Wednesday, September 16th, 1964, to learn of the sudden passing of Jack Reive at the Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto.Although Mr. Reive had been a patient in Barrie and Toronto Hospitals for seven weeks in the summer he had been at his Lefroy home enjoying apparent good health until ten days before his death.John Robert Gilmour Reive was born October 24th, 1903, on

Concession 5, where he spent the remainder of his life following farming as an occupation until his retirement to Lefroy in July 1964.Mr. Reive attended Fifth Line School, Churchill United Church and was active in the Young People's Society in his youth.As a teenager the deceased became interested in sports, first playing baseball with Lefroy. In 1930, Mr. Reive pitched for Churchill softball team when they won the championship of Simcoe County. In writing about that game a local paper of July 17th, 1930, said: Midhurst only got seven hits from the pitching of Jack Reive who was unbeatable that night. He had speed to burn and a fast twirl on the ball and five Midhurst batters walked back with a sad look on their faces after swinging at air." At one time Mr. Reive was considered the best softball pitcher in Simcoe County.A highlight of Mr. Reive's curling career came when his Churchill rink of Vincent Reive Marshall Reive and Ralph Reive won the Seagram Trophy at Toronto bonspiel in 1932. Jack Reive won the Imperial Oil Trophy at Midland in 1944; the Capt. A. A. Hudson Trophy in 1945; and in the Churchill Club the Orville Todd Trophy in 1959 the Adams Trophy and the Allan Trophy in 1960-61. In 1934 Mr. Reive served as president of Churchill Curling club.On June 29th1946 in St. Peter's Anglican Church Churchill John Robert Gilmour Reive was united in marriage to Rebecca May Donnelly by Rev. J. W. Newton-Smith. From this union there are three sons Robert Marshall and Garry and one daughter Nancy. Also surviving are a sister (Mrs. Dan Sinclair) of Toronto and brothers William of Winnipeg; Ralph of Barrie and Thomas of Cookstown. A sister Josie (Mrs. Ralph Davidson) passed away in 1945.The funeral service was conducted by Mr. T. M. Page minister of Churchill United Church at the Hughes Funeral Home Cookstown on September 19th with the Rev. F. Jackson of Stroud assisiting. Interment followed in the Sixth Line Cemetery.Pallbearers were Jack Constable Robert Sinclair Mac Stewart Nelson Browning Frank Lockhart and Frank Norusis. Acting as flowerbearers were Douglas Reive Donald McNabb Roger Reive Thomas Sutton Thomas Donnelly and James Dufor.Among the beautiful floral tributes were flowers from Churchill United Church Churchill Curling Club the Ladies' Bridge Club and among donations to the Canadian Cancer Society were from West Gwillimbury Township. "

Description : A well known and lifelong resident of Newton Robinson community, Mrs. Thomas Robinson, passed away peacefully at Inniswood Private Hospital on Saturday, November 14, 1964, after several years of failing health. She was in her 87th year. The daughter of Richard Bell of Tecumseth Township and his wife, Deborah Carter, she attended the public and continuation school at Newton Robinson for a number of years. She was employed in the tailoring business until she became the bride of Thomas Robinson on Nov. 7, 1900. Mrs. Robinson was devoted to her family and to St. Luke's Anglican Church, Pinkerton.During World Wars One and Two, she gave much of her time to Red Cross work and was honoured by a life membership.Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her loss, three daughters and three sons, Edna (Mrs. Fred Welch), Barrie, Mildred (Mrs. Wm. McLaren), Grand Bend, Marjorie (Mrs. Ken Bulman), Alliston, John of Newton Robinson, Thomas of Edmonton and William of Sudbury; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Two sons and a daugher predeceased her.The funeral service was held in St. John's Anglican Church, Cookstown, conducted by her Rector, Rev. Mr. Howard, with interment in the adjoining cemetery.The pallbearers were six grandsons, Keith, Wayne, and Gerald Robinson, Frank Packard, Doug Keating and Don Robson; the flower bearers were Russel Copeland, Earl Bell, John Feltis, Ted Houston, Lawrence Copeland and Bob Dorsey.Relatives and friends attended the funeral from Edmonton, Toronto, Aurora, Bradford, Schomberg, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Barrie, Grand Bend, Beeton, Bolton, Weston, Tottenham, Alliston and Stroud.
