In 1851, Wilson commenced clearing land to begin farming on a lot in Bradford. Married Matilda Hastings in 1853. Fathered five sons and two daughters. Son Thomas died 12 years ago. Wife died in 1894. Survived by his children: W.W. Stoddart and Mrs. C.H. Wallace, Toronto; Frederick and Miss Maggie, at home; Bert (Burton), Bradford; and Beverly, West Gwillimbury. Served on the Municipal Council, and on the High School Board. Died at his residence, "Britania Farm", Bradford. Age: 82nd year. Interred in Mount Pleasant.

Represented South Simcoe in the Commons in the Conservative interest since February 16, 1882. Appointed Lieutenant-Colonel commanding the 36th Peel Battalion in February 1886. Married Emma, daughter of the late Ven. Archdeacon Whitaker, in April 1870. Interred at St. John's cemetery, Tecumseth.
