Bradford included in Rick Hansen Relay

"A quarter century after his Man in Motion World Tour and in preparation for his 25th Anniversary Rick Hansen Relay, which will re-create the Canadian portion of his original tour, Rick Hansen is looking for residents of Bradford West Gwillimbury to help cover the 12,000-km trek across Canada.
One man in motion will be represented and celebrated by many in motion, as 7,000 participants from across Canada who have made their own difference in the lives of others will walk, wheel or run in the Rick Hansen Relay, which begins Aug. 24 in Cape Spear, Nfld. and concludes May 22, 2012 in Vancouver.
The 25th anniversary relay is planned to pass through Bradford West Gwillimbury in December 2011.
To find and recognize relay participants, the Rick Hansen Foundation launched an online public contest that opened Tuesday at rickhansenrelay.com, allowing Canadians 13 and older to enter to win a spot for themselves or nominate a worthy individual to participate in the relay as a medal-bearer." ...

Mural restored for Bradford's Sesquicentennial

"Councillor Peter Dykie Jr. has been busy, helping to spruce up Bradford for the Sesquicentennial celebration this year. In particular, he has made it his project to raise the funds to restore the Town's murals, in time for the 150th Anniversary - starting with the historic mural on Holland St. Eact, painted by artist Bill Lewotchko to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Yonge St..."

Gwillim Group Fundraiser

"One of the groups celebrating Bradford's 150th Anniversary is the Gwillim Group - a group of history buffs, under the aegis of the Bradford West Gwillimbury Local History Association, that is turning the spotlight on Upper Canada's First Lady.
Elizabeth Posthuma Gwillim was not only the wife of Lieut.-Governor John Graves Simcoe, she was an ardent traveller, and exceptional hostess and an accomplished artist. The Gwillim Group has commissioned a bronze and rock sculpture, by artist Brenda Wainman Goulet, to be placed in the parkette beside the Post Office.
To raise funds, the Group has planned an evening of Dinner Theatre, in partnership with the Bradford District High School Drama Club. On June 8 and 9, the students will present "Bradford in 1857" - actually a history of Bradford, from the early days before incorporation, "to the present day - a fun celebratory tongue-in-cheek look at Bradford," says author and drama teacher Steve Bainborough.
The Gwillim Group will serve up a Spaghetti Dinner with Strawberry Shortcake for dessert, and there will be a Silent Auction; items include an original painting by artist Kathryn Bury."
