Description : Oasie (Mike) McKinstry, 90, of 83 Holland St. E., Bradford, died Monday Oct. 1, 1984 at the York County Hospital, Newmarket.Son of the late Robert McKinstry and the former Elizabeth Lawson, of Bradford, he was born June 11, 1894 and attended Bradford Public School and Bradford District High School. Mr. McKinstry worked at a munitions factory during the First World War and was also the manager of Bradford Co-op Cold Storage.During the 1920's, Mr. McKinstry was a member of the Bradford Lacrosse Team. He also belonged to the Anglican Church.Surviving are his sister, Dorothy May McKinstry, of Bradford and his niece, Betty Manester, of Toronto. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Mazel, Mrs. Edward McGee.Friends called at the Lathangue & Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe St., Bradford. Funeral services were held in the chapel on Thursday, Oct. 4 with Rev. Henry Dahlin officiating. Interment Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bradford.

Description : A letter has reached this office from Mr. Warren McKinstry, 431 Winnipeg St., Penticton, B.C., enclosing clippings from a Port Arthur newspaper regarding the deaths of Mr. Ernest McKinstry and his wife.Mr. McKinstry died on January 7 of this year and Mrs. McKinstry died last month. Mrs. McKinstry, whose madien name was Louise Cooper, was a native of Port Arthur. Mr. McKinstry, who was born in Bradford, the Port Arthur newspaper reported:Veteran printer and outstanding athelete of the early 1900's Ernest McKinstry79 died in hospital. Born in Bradford Ont. Mr. McKinstry learned his trade as a printer with the Bradford Witness. Keen about lacrosse Mr. McKinstry came to Port Arthur on invitation to play the game with a team here in 1896. He took employment in the same year as a printer on the Herald and the Algoma Miner. He was also a keen curler and a life member of the Port Arthur Curling Club. He operated The Thunder Bay Printers until 1951 then worked with the Art-Craft Printing Co."Mr. and Mrs. McKinstry are survived by three sons and two daughters."

Description : Veteran printer and outstanding athlete of the early 1900's, Ernest McKinstry, 79, died recently at Port Arthur. Born in Bradford, Mr. McKinstry learned his trade with the Bradford Witness. Keen about lacross, Mr. McKinstry came to Port Arthur on an invitation to play the game with a team there in 1896. He took employment in the same year as a printer on the Herald and Algoma Miner. As superintendent of the jo-department, he was there until the business was sold in 1913.Mr.McKinstry was also a keen curler and a life member of the Port Arthur Curling Club. He was married in 1907 to the former Louise Cooper, daughter of an early Port Arthur settler, Captain John Cooper.A resident of Port Arthur since leaving his native town, with the exception of a few years spent in the west, Mr. McKinstry was a partner with Mrs. Denny Bacon in The Thunder Bay Printers from 1937 to 1942 when he bought out Mrs. Bacon. He operated the business until 1951. He then worked for the Art Craft Printing Co.He was a member of Shuniah Lodge, A.F. & A.M.Surviving are his wife, Louise; three sons, Robert, Port Arthur; William, Nobel, Ont.; and Ernest, R.R. 2, Fort William; two daughters, Dorothy, Mrs. Peter Slobidian and Marion, Mrs. George Stubbings both of Port Arthur; 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild.The funeral was held under the asupices of Shuniah Masonic Lodge and interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Port Arthur.
