"STODDART, VERA JANEL Peacefully passed away at Caressant Care Nursing Home, Lindsay on Thursday, February 21, 2019. Vera Stoddart (nee Fenwick) of Lindsay and formerly of Bond Head and Toronto in her 81st year. Leloved wife of Wilson for almost 59 years. Loving mom of Harry (Silvia) and Sandra (Peter) Labor. Loving grandma of Connor (Rebecca), Cavan, Harrison, Abigayle and Rebekah; Teigan and Sarah. Cherished sidter of Roy (Elaine) Fenwick. She will be dearly missed. She met life's challenges with grace, a quiet conviction, and persecerance. From her humble beginnnings as a city girl, she earned the respect of the farming community such that she became the first woman honoured as the Simcoe County Farmer of the Year (19990). She loved life on the farm, cherished her family and extended community, was a dedicated historian, and found beauty in her natural surroundings. Every day that she was able to share in the splendors of nature was another day well spent. She will be sadly missed by the countless organizations for which she volunteered. Friends may be received at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford (1-800-209-4803) for visitation on Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm. FUneral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 11 a.m. Interment Bond Head Cemetery. In Vera's memory, donations may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto."

Strong, Norman B. obituary

Description : A native of Bradford, Mr. Norman B. Strong, 74, of Colin Ave., Toronto, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday of last week. He had been at business on Monday. Mr. Strong was the only son of the late Mr. Wm. Strong, one time shoe merchant of Bradford, and his wife, the late Mrs. Sarah Bingham Strong. He apprenticed with the late Mr. William Campbell in what was for so many years known as Campbell's Drug Store, Bradford, before attending the Ontario College of Pharmacy in Toronto, from which he graduated in 1905. After a short period in Montreal, Mr. Strong went into business for himself in Haileybury. He returned to Toronto in 1921 and has operated two drug stores in the city for the past 33 years, one in the King Edward Hotel and the other at Bloor and Yonge St., known as Strong-Mellraith Ltd., of which Mr. Strong was president. Mr. Strong was a member of Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, the Downtown Kiwanis Club, and York Downs Golf Club of Toronto. Mr. Strong is survived by his wife, the former Adelaide Kinzinger; two daughters, Mrs. E. W. Steiner and Mrs. Marion Hardy, and three grandchildren, all of Toronto; and one sister, Mrs. W. G. Faris (Bertha) formerly of Maple Farm, Bradford, and now residing in Queensville. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mrs. Harvey Graham (Clara) and Mrs. R. H. Perley (Florence), also, by his father's first marriage, a half brother and two half sisters, namely, Walter Strong, Mrs. Broughton (Alma) and Miss Myra Strong. The funeral was held in Toronto on Thursday from the Morley Bedford Chapel, Eglinton Ave. W., with interment in York Cemetery.

Velma Laczko in her 90th year, a long-time resident of Bradford and one of the early market retail stand operators. Beloved wife of the late Paul George Smith. Dear mother of Velma and her husband Gerald Campiglia of Florida, Paul and his wife Eleanor of Etobicoke and predeceased by William. Dear sister of Malika and Emma both of Hungary. Velma was a very proud and loving grandma to Donald, Dennis and Peter of Florida, Paulette, Cathy and husband Angelo of Toronto, Steve, Christine and Jackie of Hamilton. She was a cherished aunt to Janci and Erzike of Hungary, fondly remembered by several great-grandchildren. Friends called at the Lathangue & Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Street, Bradford. Funeral Mass was held at the Holy Martyrs of Japan Church, Bradford on Monday November 7, 1994 at 10 a.m. Interment at Holy Martyrs Cemetery.

Author of Marsh Study dead

"Dr. John R. Brown, a professor at the University of Toronto who studied the effects of pesticides on workers in the Holland Marsh, died Saturday at the age of 57. In April this year Dr. Brown warned than an important (missing part of the article). Dr. Brown qualified as a medical doctor in London, England, in 1953. He received a PhD in applied physiology. After coming to Canada in 1959 he lectured at the University of Toronto in science, environmental health, and industrial health. Dr. Brown was blind in one eye since childhood and became almost totally blind in 1969, but he continued to work with the help of his wife, Helena, and son, David Bartholomew. He was the author of four technical books, president of the Health League of Canada, and chairman of the national committee of employment for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind."
