Jack Sutherland in Uniform Outside the Bradford Model School

Photograph of Jack Sutherland standing in front of the Bradford Model School. Jack was the son of Alexander and Elizabeth Sutherland who ran Sutherland’s Bakery and Grocery. He was the nephew of Bessie Campbell. Jack served in the First World War and was killed in action in 1917. He is buried in Shorncliffe Military Cemetery in Sandgate, Eng.

Photograph of Owen Smith (1920-1943), son of Ann "Jennie" Smith (nee Martin) (1881-1947) and James Albert Smith (1878-1956). Owen was reported missing in action on March 23, 1943.
Jennie was the daughter of Thomas Martin (1840-1919) and Elizabeth Martin (nee Lee) (1850-1936). Elizabeth Lee was the daughter of Thomas Lee (1794-1868) and Ann Lee (nee Graham) (abt. 1825-1903).

Military History is recalled by Finding of Button

"While working in the flower-bed at the front of the bradford Presbyterian Church this summer, Mr. harvey Curry dug up a small object which turned out to be a button off a soldier's uniform. A little rubbing revealed the number "30" inside a raised circle on which was the word "Cambridge"
Local veterans being unable to identify it, Mr. Curry wrote to the Royal Canadian Military Institute in Toronto and received the following reply:" ...
