"A happy Bathurst St. resident recently won $1,000 in the Wintario Lottery. Ladislaw [Walter] Dyrda, who has lived in Bradford 26 years, won the money with a ticket he purchased at Davis Pharmacy. Mr. Dyrda, an employee at Sterling Drugs in Aurora plans to use the money for a trip to his native Czechoslovakia next summer. "It is the first time I have ever won anything," the happy winner said. Above, Mr. Dyrda and Ross David hold a copy of the check for $1,000."

"Some of the queen contestants in the International Harvest Festival assembled on the weekend, representing many of the ethnic groups in the Bradford area. "Karen Brinkos had good reason to smile last Saturday. The attractive 19-year-old Bradford girl was chosen Harvest Queen at the first Harvest Festival held in the Ukrainian Cultural Centre on the weekend. Karen represented the Slovak peoples. Her parents, Mike and Julia Brinkos, won't learn about their daughter's achievement until they return from vacation in their native Czechoslovakia."

Jim Simone wins trip to Bahamas

"Mr. and Mrs. Jim Simone of RR 2, Newmarket are the lucky winners of a trip of De Peuter Interiors of Bradford. The second annual draw was held in the De Peuter showroom October 2, and the Simones were present, along with several other people to witness as their daughter , Chris, drew the lucky ticket, out of 2,000. "It was a chance in a million," Lawrence De Peuter said later. "We had asked Chris to draw the ticket because her hand was small enough to fit easily into the drum."Jim Simone said Monday that they plan to take the trip sometime in late November. The holiday will be arranged by the Bradford Travel Agency."

The Lucky Ticket

"Ticket number 13 was the lucky one for John Thompson (left) and his wife, June, of Sharon as they collect the keys to the 1977 Cutlass Supreme at the Bradford Blues car draw on Saturday. Mr. Thompson's was the 1,000th ticket picked in the elimination draw. Bob Hamilton of RR 3, Bradford, won the consolation prize of a color television. Winners of $100 each were William Barranger, Gery DePeuter, Elizabeth Gregory, McKinzey Hardware, Wayne Collings, and Charles Breedon, all from Bradford."
