"The Holland Marsh" by Edward Cavell
Part of Local History Collection
A 1935 study of the 1852 survey of the Holland Marsh, written by Edward Cavell and published by the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors. The report is accompanied by a portrait and biography of Cavell, former President of the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors.
The first full survey of the Marsh was conducted due to the construction of the Northern Railway between Toronto and Barrie after 1852. The surveyor used tamarack poles hammered into the muck below the water.

Description : Jay Currier advised the council that the reconstruction of the Holland Marsh Drainage scheme is ready to begin in 2008. The project will cost around $14-15 million and will see large sections of both the north and south canals relocated by a matter of metres, creating a uniform depth, and a life-saving berm between the water and road. Paying for this will be King Township, Bradford West Gwillimbury, the Marsh farmers, the Ministry of Transportation, County of Simcoe, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Natural Resources, Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and upstream property owners.

Description : We are a bus company from Grey County near Durham. Recently, we ran a mystery tour in your area. Our customers were thrilled with the part of the trip that included a guided tour of the Holland Marsh. Our guide was Mr. Edo Knibbe. We started out by contacting the Chamber of Commerce, who introduced us to Mrs. Barbara Verney. She is so knowledgeable of the area, and hence was a tremendous help to us. We also received excellent response from stops at the Bajar Greenhouses and Bradford Oak Ridges Market. We wish to thank the Chamber of Commerce and local businesses, Mrs. Verney and Mr. Knibbe for their kind assistance.
