From the Canadian Virtual War Memorial:
“Henry first joined the Army as part of the 80th Battalion, on August 10, 1915. He was discharged at Camp Barriefield, on September 25, 1915 as "medically unfit." In January, 1916, he enlisted again, this time with the 93rd Battalion, 57th Regiment, Peterborough Rangers. On July 15, 1916, Henry shipped out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, aboard the SS Empress of Britain and arrived in Liverpool, England on July 25, 1916. In September 1916, he was moved to France and on October 2, 1916, was assigned to a Unit that was fighting, in the Battle of the Somme, near the village of Courcelette. On October 12th, 1916, he was wounded by shrapnel and on October 14, 1916 he died of those wounds. He was 39 years (?), four months old. Ironically, October 14 was the birthday, of his wife Susan.”

"Pte. Henry Smith, a resident of Bradford nine years ago, has been killed in action. He enlisted at Peterboro."

"STODDART, VERA JANEL Peacefully passed away at Caressant Care Nursing Home, Lindsay on Thursday, February 21, 2019. Vera Stoddart (nee Fenwick) of Lindsay and formerly of Bond Head and Toronto in her 81st year. Leloved wife of Wilson for almost 59 years. Loving mom of Harry (Silvia) and Sandra (Peter) Labor. Loving grandma of Connor (Rebecca), Cavan, Harrison, Abigayle and Rebekah; Teigan and Sarah. Cherished sidter of Roy (Elaine) Fenwick. She will be dearly missed. She met life's challenges with grace, a quiet conviction, and persecerance. From her humble beginnnings as a city girl, she earned the respect of the farming community such that she became the first woman honoured as the Simcoe County Farmer of the Year (19990). She loved life on the farm, cherished her family and extended community, was a dedicated historian, and found beauty in her natural surroundings. Every day that she was able to share in the splendors of nature was another day well spent. She will be sadly missed by the countless organizations for which she volunteered. Friends may be received at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford (1-800-209-4803) for visitation on Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm. FUneral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 11 a.m. Interment Bond Head Cemetery. In Vera's memory, donations may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto."

Description : A former Bradford resident passed away April 6 in Peterborough. Mr. Gordon S. Faris, 66, died in Peterborough and was buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Bradford April 9. Mr. Faris was born and educated in Bradford and attended the University of Toronto. Mr. Faris is survived by his wife Doris, son Paul of Scarborough, daughter Mary Lou of Ottawa and brother Murray of R.R. 1, Bradford. Mr. Faris retired in 1973 from Ontario Hydro where he was employed for 40 years as an electrical engineer.

John, beloved husband of Janice (Corner), dear father of John, Lisa and Lori, beloved son of Joyce Anderson of Bradford and the late John Anderson. Dear brother of Alex and his wife Paula of Brampton and Glenn of Bradford. Loving grandson of Mrs. Jessie Blakley of Weston. Also missed by Joyce and Don Corner. Services were held at the Hendren Chapel, Lakefield, Thursday, May 11, 1989 at 1:30 p.m.
