"Oh! Canada" Official Languages Kit

"Oh! Canada" kit, distributed to primary school children in Canada (2.5 million), including in Bradford West Gwillimbury. It was a result of the Official Languages Act passed in 1969 and the Canadian government's efforts to work-out Canada's French/English history and identity going forward. The kit was created by Keith Spicer, Canada's Commissioner of Official Languages from 1970 - 1977.

Heritage display

"Marta Ozals, a student in John Gabel's class at Earl Rowe Public School, was hard at work last week on her poster for the Kinsmen's Heritage Day celebrations this weekend. The posters will be judged Saturday and will be on display Sunday at the high school. A dance and free films are among the other activities planned for the weekend."

"Peter Dykie, 12, and Theresa Arrigo, 13, winners of the public speaking contest held last week at Marie of the Incarnation School, Bradford. Peter, a grade 7 student at Bradford public school and Theresa, a Marie of the Incarnation grade 7 student won $15 each, beating entrants from five Bradford schools."

A graduate of Bradford District High School, he is currently enrolled in a Master of Science geology program at Laurentian University in Sudbury.'

"Peter Smith and Lesley Barker proudly display the trophies they won last Thursday at the Bradford District High School's Drama Night. Lesley and Peter won the best actress and best actor awards for the second year in a row, the first time that has happened in the history of the school. The judge's decision was wildly applauded by the audience."

Institute elects year's officers

"The Tee-We-Gwill chapter of the Women's Institute held their first meeting with this year's officers last Monday night at the home of Mrs. Barbara Wilcox on Beeton Road. The Women's Institute was originally founded in Ontario to educate women in rural areas in the homemaking field. Since then it has become a world-wide community services oriented organization. The Tec-We-Gwill chapter sponsors a Can-Save Child in Austria, as well as sponsoring the Tec-Gwill 4-H Club for young women."
