He had been playing with a ball near the edge of the highway and ran into the path of the car to retrieve the ball which had bounced onto the road.

Description : A former resident of Cookstown, Charles Harper died at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, on Saturday, July 18, 1953, in his 80th year. He had been in failing health for some time, but had been seriously ill from a heart condition for the last few days before his death.Born at Toronto on January 16, 1874, the late Mr. Harper had spent most of his life in Cookstown. He had lived for the last 12 years in Barrie. He was fond of all sports, especially hockey.A member of the Presbyterian Church, he was a supporter of the Liberal Party.Besides his wife and four daughters, Mrs. C. Dunn (Irene), Mrs. L. Stinson (Beatrice), Mrs. A. Smith (Bernice) and Mrs. C. Wrightman (Babe), he is survived by four grandchildren, Barry Dunn, Wayne and Heather Wrightman and Jackie Smith.The funeral service on Monday, July 20, was conducted by Rev. Karam Gueris at the Jennett Funeral Home. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, George Rogerson, Wilfred How, Merwood McFadden, Sid Bourne, Jack Boxall and Gilbert Wiley. Interment was in Angus Cemetery.

She was the widow of Nelson Banting, brother of Sir Frederick Banting, discoverer of insulin.Mrs. Banting was born in Alliston and had been a prominent worker in the women's organizations of the United Church and the Women's Institute. Several years ago she moved to Creemore to live with her daughter. She was a member of St. John's United Church.She leaves two sons, Angus Banting, Montreal, and Alan Banting, Belleville, and two daughters, Mrs. Gordon Webster, Creemore, and Mrs. J. Curwood, Toronto. Burial was in Alliston.
