Description : Lifelong area resident Jim Bateman died Wednesday, June 14 at the age of 62.A West Gwillimbury farmer, he was living in retirement at Ballydown Beach near Gilford.He leaves a wife, Vira, two sons, William of Muirkirk, and David of West Gwillimbury, four grandchildren, brother Tom of Houston, Texas, brother Gordon of Bradford, sister Connie Clubine of Winnipeg, and sister Margaret Watt of Islington.Funeral services took place Saturday, June 17 and burial was at Bond Head Cemetery.Bateman was born in Innisfil Township, moving to the family farm on Highway 88, now managed by his son David.He attended Cherry Creek School and SS Number Three, and was an elder and trustee of Bond Head United Church. Bateman also served on West Gwillimbury Council as deputy-reeve, and was a former weed inspector for South Simcoe.Pallbearers for the funeral were John Hodgson, Joe Wood, Errol Gray, Jack Kithcing, John Hambly, and Art Evans.
