Newspaper photo of two women, Joan and Mary Holancin, crouched in front of a sign reading "Bradford: The Heart of Canada's Vegetable Industry" with a second sign below it reading "Centennial - Celebrating 100 Years of Progress 1857 - 1957." Part of the centennial festivities was the opening of the district community centre for which residents contributed close to $100,000. The most popular sport in village community at the time was hockey, and the village acquired a new team that year.

Arthur Evans' Appreciation Night
Parte deLocal History Collection
They came to pay tribute to Arthur Evans in Barrie last week at an appreciation night sponsored by the Simcoe Centre Progressive Conservatives. Mr. Evans is holding one of the many gifts he received that night, a caricature of himself in cavalier costume while Mr. Evans' wife Audrey, and Simcoe Centre MPP George Taylor look on. This photo appeared in the Bradford Witness along with an article about the evening and both of these were found in the Bradford Women's Institute Scrapbooks.

Donna, 18, was elected at the Salad Festival dance Saturday night in the Bradford community centre. "It's Bradford Salad Festival Time! Already, the rides for the kids have been set up on the parking lot in front of the community centre, and youngsters are lining up to get on them. The rides aren't going to be the only thing for the children, however. After Saturday's parade, led by Ontario Premier William Davis (which starts at Melbourne Crescent and moves east along Holland St. to Colborne St. where it will disperse), all of the posters that the elementary school children have made will be on display at the Curling Club, next door to the community centre. The weekend is not only for the children; the adults are guaranteed a good time as well."
