Description : Mr. Matthew (Matt.) G. Meher had been suffering from a serious heart condition for the past several years and it was known by the members of his family that he could not live for long and that his passing was likely to be very sudden, therefore they were as nearly prepared as members of a family can be, for the passing of a loved one, when on the evening of Saturday, June 6, when Mr. and Mrs. Meher were at the home of their son Peter, at Thornton, they found Mr. Meher's body, where he had collapsed.Born on
Concession 13, West Gwillimbury, Mr. Meher had spent his entire life in the township, where while still an infant he moved with his family to the Pinkerton district, where he spent his childhood, young manhood and early married life.Eighteen years ago last March Mr. and Mrs. Meher purchased the farm on No. 88 Highway, and moved from the Pinkerton district but they never lost contact with their old neighbours and friends because their church continued to be St. Luke's, Pinkerton, and even when last fall they moved to Bond Head, and left their son Kenneth on the farm, they went to the little church at Pinkerton.Mr. Meher is survived by his wife, the former Jennie Bowles, whom he married in December, 1924, and a family of two sons, Peter, who lives at Thornton, Kenneth, on the Bradford farm on No. 88 Highway, and two daughters, Mary (Mrs. Charles Gibson) in Barrie, and Muriel (Mrs. Walter Reynolds) of Bond Head, and six grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Wm Bowles (Ethel) of Bradford and Mrs. E. Welch (Mima) of Toronto. He was predeceased by a son, Douglas, a brother, George, and sister, Mrs. Lorenzo Harvey (Olive).The funeral was held from the Hughes' Funeral Home, Cookstown, to St. Luke's Church, Pinkerton, for service on Tuesday afternoon, June 9, with interment in St. Paul's Cemetery, Coulson's Hill. Rev. J. A. Howard, rector of St. Luke's, conducted the services.The pallbearers were Carl Bowles, Keith Bowles, Clarence Harvey, Ralph Williams, Don Bowles and Frank Packard.Flower bearers were Clarence Ritchie, Jack Ramsay, Bill Culbert and Dalton Meher.
