Description : Although known to have a heart ailment, Mr. James Armstrong was about town every day and his death was most unexpected. Last Wednesday morning he had been to the building he formerly owned, and where he continued to be interested in the alterations which have converted it into a bowling alley, and from there he went to visit with a friend at the B.A. station. While in the latter business place he suffered a heart seizure and was moved to his home where he passed away about noon. The deceased was born in Bradford 71 years ago, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Armstrong. He attended Bradford schools and in early life cut and sold marsh hay, long before the idea of draining the Holland Marsh was conceived. Later he was in the garage and motor sales business, retiring from active business life a number of years ago after suffering a broken back in a fall at his barns. In February, 1914, James Armstrong and Jane Saint, both of Bradford, were married in Toronto. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. William Watson (Shirley) of Bradford, also two grandchildren, Robbie and Debbie Watson. He was predeceased by an infant son, Gordon, and a daughter, Jean, who died when a child, also by a sister, Mrs. Metcalfe (Sarah) and a brother, Jack. The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon from the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home where services were taken by his rector, Rev. W. S. Johnson, of Trinity Anglican Church. Interment was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.The pallbearers were Richard Saint, Jack Church, Jim Church, Ken. Saint, Mel. Saint and Roy Saint, all of Bradford.

Description : Although not enjoying the best of health for some time, the last illness of Mrs. James Armstrong, of 98 John Street E., Bradford, was not lengthy, when she passed away in York County Hospital on Friday, November 11. Mrs. Armstrong was a life-long resident of Bradford, where she received her schooling as the former Violet Jane Saint. With her marriage to the late James Armstrong she continued to reside in Bradford, where she enjoyed life with the company of her relatives and long-time friends.Her church was Trinity Anglican, Bradford. Mrs. Armstrong's husband predeceased her in 1956 and she is survived by one daughter (Shirley), Mrs. William Watson of Bradford and her grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Sara Reeves of Bradford, and a brother, Mr. Leonard Saint of Bradford also survive. The funeral was held on November 14 from the Lewis Funeral Home, with her rector, Rev. W. H. Warnica, conducting the services. Interment was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.The pallbearers were Messrs. James Church, Gordon Church, Jack Church, Allen Hodgson, Mel. Saint and Roy Saint.

Description : Mrs. Wesley Banting of Toronto passed away early Sunday morning, June 28, in her 80th year, at the home of her brother, Ferris Donnell. Mrs. Banting was the wife of the late Wesley Banting, who were former residents of Cookstown. Left to mourn the loss of a loving mother are Mrs. L. Hariot (Louise), Mrs. G. Young (Rhoda), Frank and John, all of Toronto; Donnell of Foote's Bay, and Clara Banting of Timmins. Two brothers, Ferris Donnell of Toronto and H. G. Donnell of Cookstown, and one sister, Mrs. R. H. Sim, Toronto, also survive. The service was at the Turner and Porter Funeral Home, 436 Roncesvalles Ave., Toronto, on Wednesday, July 1. Interment at Lewis' Cemetery, Cookstown. Thirty-four relatives and friends attended the short service at Lewis' Cemetery, when the Rev. Mr. Marsh of Toronto conducted the service.

Elizabeth Wist, 84, of 200 Holland Court, Bradford, died on Monday, Jan. 14, 1985 in York County Hospital, Newmarket.
The daughter of Joseph and Katherine Ernst, of Yugoslavia, she was born on Apr. 28, 1900 in Yugoslavia.
She was a member of the Holy Martyrs of Japan Roman Catholic Church.
Predeceased by her husband John Wist Sr. and a son Frank, she is survived by her son John Wist Jr. of RR1 Kettleby, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday,January 17 at the Holy Martyrs of Japan Church with Father Vella officiating. Interment Holy Martyrs Cemetery.

Description : Residing at the home of his son, Mr. Isaac Coburn, during the past months. Mr. John Coburn, a life-long resident of Newton Robinson, passed away here on Sunday, July 13th, in his 94th year. Advanced years had left their mark on the old gentleman, whose faculties had diminished and whose sight was gone, so that his passing was not unexpected.
Born at Newton Robinson, Mr. Coburn resided there throughout his long life until coming to reside at the home of his son in Bradford. Seventy years ago he married Miss Martha Spellet [Spillet] at Newton Robinson. She predeceased him in January of last year. Surviving are four sons, Isaac, of Bradford; Dalton, of Cookstown; Samuel, of Barrie; and Marshal, or Toronto; and a daughter, Mrs. Emma Bragg, of Syracuse, N.Y. Another daughter, Mrs. Annie Blake, predeceased him.
Mr. Coburn was well and favourably known in the Newton Robinson district. Being a carpenter by trade, and a workman highly esteemed for his skillful workmanship, he contacted many people of the district. He was a member of the Anglican church.
The funeral was held from the home of his son, Mr. Isaac Coburn, in Bradford, on Tuesday, July 15th, with interment in Newton Robinson Cemetery. The services were taken by his rector, Rev. Blevin Atkinson, of Cookstown and Newton Robinson. The pallbearers were Messrs. Fred Draper, Norman Chantler, Iyre Wilson, Bert Fisher, Chris. Lee, and Dee Chantler. Relatives and friends from Tottenham, Beeton, and Alliston were present at the funeral to par their last respects to the deceased.
