He answered questions about the government's wage and price controls and threatened stiffer measures if the controls do not stop inflation. "Arthur Evans, retiring Simcoe-Centre MPP said Thursday night he was leaving politics because "we should have new blood". He was speaking at an all-candidates meeting held in Sir William Osler School by the Bradford and West Gwillimbury Progressive Conservative Riding Association. Three contestants for the nomination in Simcoe-centre spoke after Mr. Evans reminisced about his last 16 years at Queen's Park. Evans described his various duties, told a joke about Stuart Smith, and promised the nominees that the winner would have all his support and advice."

Massive state intervention in the marketplace does guarantee absolutely that the productive capacity of Ontario's farmers will be severely restricted by a new host of governmental restrictions and directives. If you examine the food growing capacity of certain totalitarian nations such as the Soviet Union, the state of that country's agriculture is nothing short of national disaster."

"Former warden of Simcoe County, D. Arthur Evans. MPP for Centre Simcoe, won the riding for the Progressive Conservative party five times during his 16 years as a member of the Ontario Legislature. Mr. Evans has announced he will be retiring at the end of his current term. George Taylor, Barrie lawyer, has been chosen the next party candidate to stand in the next provincial election. Simcoe County warden in 1958, Warden elected to the legislature on September 20, 1960, when the late Leslie M. Frost was Ontario premier. Mr. Evans ran in a by-election when the seat became vacant through the death of the late George G. Johnston."

"The mayor of all the people in Bradford for many years, Joe Magani (left) has received a great deal of well-deserved tribute for contributions. The latest is a photo portrait donated by the Chamber of Commerce, represented by president John Gaus (right). The portrait will hang in the town hall when the renovations are completed."

"Arthur Evans of Bradford, former Simcoe Centre MPP, was among the dignitaries at the official opening of the new Simcoe County courthouse in Barrie last Friday. Mr. Evans who represented Simcoe Centre for 16 years, was joined in the plaque unveiling and ribbon cutting by Roy McMurtry, Attorney General of Ontario, and George McCague, Minister of Government Services. The courthouse is in downtown Barrie and it cost $7.3 million. It contains four county courtrooms and five courtrooms for the criminal and family court divisions. The building also accommodates the office of the sheriff and Crown attorney, administration offices, and the Simcoe County Law Association. A large crowd braved snowy weather to watch the opening ceremony and tour the modern building."

"At the first conference of employees in the Consumer and Commercial Relations Ministry, the Honourable Sidney Handleman presented a survey of consumer attitudes taken in North Bay recently. Aside from revealing that the vast majority of consumer protection law, the most startling revelation concerns the attitude of young people towards the business. That concerns me. It should concern small business people even more. What is even more startling is the result of the question, "How much profit out of each dollar do you think food chains make after taxes"? The answers covered the gambit from nothing to $2. One food chain in its 1976 annual report stated that "earnings per dollar of sales were less that 8-10 of a cent, compared with one cent per dollar in the same period last year..."
