Patrick (Pat) Poland, in charge of Bradford detachment of the O.P.P., died at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, on May 26.Mrs. Poland had been known to be in a serious condition of health form some time and her passing was not unexpected. Her trouble was diagnosed shortly after Sgt. Poland suffered a heart attack, which has kept him off duty.To Sgt. Poland and their two sons, many friends in the Bradford area will join The Witness in extending sympathy.

Description : A pioneer of the Holland Marsh, settling on that then virgin garden soil in 1934, Mr. Percival Jacques passed away at York Manor on April 29, 1962. Mr. Jacques had been moved from his home in Holland Landing, after breaking his leg, to York Manor, and appeared to be enjoying very good health, his death being quite unexpected. He was in his 90th year.Born in East Zorra Township, at Hickson, near Woodstock, he spent his early life there and in September, 1902, married Margaret Jane King of Hickson. He was a farmer while living in the Woodstock area, later coming to Hamilton where he was in the insurance business before coming to the Holland Marsh.As one of the marsh pioneers, Mr. Jacques took an active part in community affairs in the early days of the marsh, and being one of its senior residents, and very honourable in all business, he was held in high esteem by his neighbours. In 1945 Mr. and Mrs. Jacques retired to Holland Landing. where they lived most happily until falls incapacitated them, Mr. Jacques with a broken leg and Mrs. Jacques with a broken arm, and they moved to York Manor for care.Mr. Jacques is survived by his wife; three sons, Morley of Hamilton, Ivan of Hamilton, and Ronald of R.R. 2, Newmarket; and three daughters, Muriel (Mrs. Alex Mitchell) of Elmira, Emeline (Mrs. William Hopson) of St. Catharines, and Dorothy (Mrs. George Taylor) of R.R. 2, Newmarket. A son, Orville Jacques of Holland Landing, predeceased him. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Fred King of Toronto. Mr. Jaques was a member of Holland Landing United Church and an elder of that church.He was the first president of the Holland Marsh Ratepayers' Association and was a director of the Bradford Co-operative Storage Board.The funeral was held from Holland Landing United Church with services conducted by his minister, Rev. F. G. MacTavish. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery.The pallbearers were six grandsons, Terry Jacques, Kenneth Jacques, Lorne Thompson, Brian Mitchell and Gary Hopson.
