"A large crowd was on hand for the 15th annual graduation exercises held at Sir William Osler School last Thursday. Thirty seven grade eight students received their graduation diplomas. The graduation diplomas were presented by the principal, Mel Mitchell and teacher Jim Breen. A number of other awards were also presented. Winner of the penmanship award, presented by Miss Ethyle Breedon, was Pamela Barnes. The citizenship award, donated by the Imperial Daughters of the Empire, was Kevin Horner. The award was presented by Mrs. June Brown. The Tec-We-Gwill Women's Institute Trophy for English, presented by Mrs. Bruce Keffer went to Douglas Jessop. He also won the Fisher's Corner Old Boy's Trophy for general proficiency, presented by Mrs. Orville Hughes. The valedictorian address was made by Jan McQuiggan. West Gwillimbury-Bradford Centennial Park Officially Opened by Lieut. Governor Hon. W. Earl Rowe.

The West Gwillimbury and Bradford Centennial Park was officially opened on Saturday afternoon September 9, by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Hon. W. Earl Rowe.

Ont the platform with Hon. and Mrs. Rowe were members of council for West Gwillimbury and Bradford and West Gwillimbury and Bradford Parks Board, the Warden and Clerk of Simcoe County, the Lions and Rotary V.I.P. Committee and the wives of a few of the officials.

His Honor, the Lieutenant Governor, reviewed the development and growth of the Bradford district, speaking on this subject from his wealth of knowledge. His address was a highlight of the day and his presence and officiating at this memorable occasion in the life of the community was appreciated by everyone.

The day also marked the turning on of the new lights for the ball park, and the Lieutenant Governor performed this duty.

Bond Head Grade 8 graduation which took place in Canada's Centennial year. Reeve D. Arthur Evans presented diplomas to the graduates.

"The deluge of rain on Sunday did not deter the descendants of the sturdy Scotch Settlement pioneers from attending the unveiling ceremonies at the Auld Kirk cemetery. A remarkably large crowd, considering weather conditions, was in attendance, and with the speakers sheltered by a large covered truck, and the audience huddled under umbrellas, the program, as arranged was conducted with as much detail as though the sun had shone... Dr. Wilfred Jury, representing the Archaeological and Historic Sites Board, in addressing the gathering, made a suggestion which is likely to make the occasion one which will be followed by further tangible evidence that the residents of the Scotch Settlement, both past and present, and of this district, are keenly interested in preserving records and articles of historic interest for the benefit of this and future generations." ...
