Charter member of Simcoe Lodge A.F. & A.M., member of Manitoba Lodge, A.F. & A.M., Cookstown. Funeral held in Toronto. Interment in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Description : In his 95th year, one of the oldest residents of the county and beloved husband of Elizabeth Baycroft, died at his late residence.Eldest son of a Simcoe County pioneer family, Mr. Chantler was born at Newton Robinson, where his father was merchant and post master, and he continued to reside there until his marriage to Willomine Law in 1864. For a time he farmed in Essa but returned to a farm near Newton Robinson where his wife fied in 1891.He farmed for a time in Tecumseh township, then returned to Newton Robinson, where he purchased the store and, with his son, M. L. Chantler, continued in business until 1922. Since that time, he and Mrs. Chantler, formerly Elizabeth I. Baycroft of Tossorontio Township have lived retired in Newton Robinson.By his first marriage three sons survive: Rev. W. M. Chantler, Toronto; Herbert L. Chantler, Lindsay; and Marshall L. Chantler, Barrie. By his second marriage one son, Ernest Chantler, Toronto, survives. He is also survived by one brother, Russell Chantler, of Cookstown. He was predeceased by a daughter, Ida, Mrs. William Bellamy, a son; Joseph W., a brother, James, and two sisters, Mrs. Hilwell and Mrs. Rorke.Funeral service at his late residence to Newton Robinson United Church, with Rev. G. D. Kendall in charge, assisted by former pastors of Mr. Chantler, Rev. Burgess and Rev. Lawrence. Interment in Alliston Union Cemetery.
